First Half.
Once again another difficult match with Adlington Arrows only one place below Rangers U10s. The match started well with William making a good run down the left and his opening shot going just wide. Despite the good start and some pressure on the Adlington goal, it was Arrows who opened the scoring from a corner, after we gave away a corner. This didn't distract the boys and it wasn't long beofre Jack tested Adlington's keeper with another excellent shot from the right. Jack and Jamie were linking up well and with Jack using his voice well to encourage the team, they didn't have to wait long for the equaliser.
Westhoughton's first goal came on 13 minutes after Ashley's clearance was well positioned off an Arrows defender to force a goal kick, which was taking quickly by Anthony sending William through for a left foot shot in front of goal making it 1-1. It was soon 2-1, as on 20 minutes Jack took a corner to the near post where Dylan met it with a slick back heal for his first goal of the game.
Anthony didn't have much to do in the Westhoughton goal, but when called on to make some especially high looping balls he was more than capable of saving them all. 5 minutes before half-time a good clearance from Ashley released Sam and William linking up well nearly producing a third.
Half-Time 2-1
Second Half
With Adam and Tom back together in defence and Anthony in goal the second half looked very confortable from the start, but with one goal in it, the next goal was important and thankfully when Dylan struggled to release the eager Jamie and William, he was forced to go it alone, weaving through the defence making it 3-1 on 38 minutes.
3 minutes later Jack sent across another great corner, which Adlington could only clear as far as Adam, who shot through a packed defence only for their keeper to deflect the ball into an open goal area for Sam with the easiest of tap-ins for 4-1. The scoring was wrapped up 8 minutes from full-time with a great goal-kick from Sam giving William the ball, who excellently turned and shot to make it 5-1
Westhoughton Rangers looked back on form today and with Bolton County Sharks in the next round of the cup next week, we hope that the excellent play of recent weeks are on show then as well.
Congratualtions to Jack for his excellent play, corners and overall skill in all areas of the field today rewarding him with the Man of the Match Trophy.
