Lightning strikes twice on the park !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bromley Cross Lightning 2 v Westhoughton Park Rangers 1
The Park were hit by double trouble against Bromley Cross Lightning today in a game true to the spirit of football. On a tight pitch and with key strikers missing the Park arrived desperate to end a five game losing streak. After a slightly delayed KO and change of venue, the Park lined up with Fishy in goal Syksey in the middle wing backs of Jakey and Archie. Soph and Josh D started in the middle with Ben M pushed into an unfamiliar attacking role. The Thorlinator and Matty warmed the bench. eager to get into the action. The match started evenly, Bromley Cross did some good pressing but the Rangers looked dangerous on the break. Fishy was looking in top form and provided an early save from a Bromley Cross corner. Park were trying to pass the ball through the middle but the pitch was small and the defence hard to break through. Ben M was an early sub so that we could re-shape the team and get him in his more favoured midfield position. Jake looked threatening and Archie was a constant menace and when his pass found Josh D the keeper was made to pull off a smart save . Some nice passing from Jakey and Matty nearly created an early opening as the game switched from end to end.
The ever dependable Syksey was proving hard to get round as the lightning looked for an opening in the Park rear guard. A corner provided the break they needed as the ball looped over the defence as if chipped by the great Tiger Woods, the striker coach Jordan had been warning the team about throughout the first half was at hand to smash the ball home to make it BCL 1 WPR 0. Josh Fish was smartly off his line to prevent a second as Bromley Cross grew in confidence. Ben Thorley was smartly breaking up play in the middle and when the ball fell for Jake he was unlucky to see his effort bounce just the wrong side of the post. Shortly after a Josh D screamer hit the post and bounced out as the park pressed for an equaliser. The free kicks were mounting against the Park and when the Bromley striker went down like Drogba a free kick was given to the right of the box, a fantastic strike was somehow palmed clear by Fishy De Gea Hart in goal to prevent a two goal deficit at the break.
Park started the second half in smart fashion and were given orders to try to run through the Bromley defence. Sophie a specialist at weaving runs, made one such dash that had all the spectators on there feet and was unlucky to see her effort sat on by the keeper. All of a sudden Josh D was everywhere and Archie Sophie and Jake were tearing gaping holes in the visitors defence. It came as no suprise when a Ben Midlaine ball found Josh, who's rocket of a shot bounced in off the defenders outstretched leg. (1-1 game on) Bromley Cross were certainly hanging on and another Josh D effort was unluckily turned wide by the defenders shoulder. Then against the run of play Lightning struck again after a corner was smartly turned into the net by the Bromley Cross No 9.
Kev nervously checked his I phone as the minutes ticked down and the Park threw everything but the kitchen sink at the opposition. With seconds remaining Matty found himself in the clear with only the goalie to beat to make the score a deserved 2-2, alas Matty didn't read the script and to his horror shot wide. But there were no complaints as the team were a credit, played some great football and gave us all a great mornings entertainment. Well done to Dave and his Lightning, not a pop band but a very good team
