Report

A full squad turned out for this evening's game against local rivals Leigh United. Following on from Saturday's defeat against Moses Gate, tonight saw a much-improved Rangers performance with some fantastic teamwork paying off to end the game with a draw.  
 
Following a slightly shaky start, there was a powerful early goal from Jay which hit the target in the top right of the Leigh United net that the keeper had no chance of keeping hold of.  With the lead established and confidence restored, Rangers settled down and defended well with Josh and Jack absolutely solid at the back - they are turning into a formidable pairing not to be messed with!  Tom then saved a potential shot on target by Leigh with a great clearance, only to be followed up with action at the opposite end of the pitch minutes later where he had a great chance of a goal that the visiting keeper just managed to save.  Our own keeper Farrell had a fantastic first half and his judgement in knowing when to come out to meet the attacking Leigh players to prevent shots saved us from potential goals on 3 occasions. The second half is where Rangers really came into their own though in terms of teamwork with a fantastic break created by Joseph leading to a passing sequence between Tom, Oliver and Owen that finally resulted in our second goal courtesy of Oliver.  
 
We had a couple of further chances in the second half, with some great turns and passes in the box from Ethan that Owen was unlucky in not being able to convert to shots on target.  Unfortunately, Leigh pulled back with a further two goals - it could've been more thanks to a nail-biting clearance off the line by Josh with his head.
 
In addition to his goal, Oliver's contribution in midfield was significant and he thoroughly deserved the Man of the Match award.  Well done lads! Same again on Saturday!
